Napoli Spacca: A Sonic Journey Through the Heart of Naples

Napoli Spacca: A Sonic Journey Through the Heart of Naples

Naples, a city rich in history and culture, is currently experiencing a moment of extraordinary creativity with the “Napoli Spacca – soundscapes city performance” project. Sponsored and funded by the City of Naples as part of the Naples City of Music initiative and curated by Ponderosa Music & Art, this project aims to capture the sonic essence of the city through a unique and original composition.

“Napoli Spacca” is not just a musical project but a true journey through the sounds of Naples. In a preliminary phase of sound research, the urban noises of Naples will be transformed into a composition that tells the story of the city, its deep connection to its roots, and its constant drive for regeneration. This innovative project seeks to create a dialogue between tradition and innovation, uniting generations through the evocative power of sound.

Sergio Locoratolo, the coordinator of cultural policies for the City of Naples, stated:
“The Napoli Spacca project combines quality entertainment with high-level research: between tradition and innovation, what emerges is a soundscape capable of capturing Naples’ contemporary identity, telling the story of our time and space, and offering ideas for new future musical creations.”

Ferdinando Tozzi, the Mayor’s delegate for audiovisual and music industries, added:
“Napoli Spacca fully embodies the spirit of Naples City of Music. A complex initiative that contributes to the growth of the music sector, charting new and unprecedented paths for the music of tomorrow.”

Their collaboration blends advanced recording techniques with a deep understanding of sound traditions, creating a perfect mix of innovation and folklore. The project’s culminating event will take place on September 2, 2024, at 9:00 PM in the picturesque courtyard of Castel Nuovo / Maschio Angioino. The live performance will offer the audience an immersive and engaging experience through the use of traditional instruments and the structure of the sound installation.

Admission is free with reservation, available from August 27 via Eventbrite.

Additionally, at 11:30 AM on the same day, Palazzo Cavalcanti – Casa della Cultura (via Toledo 348) will host the panel “Regenerating, between Popular Traditions and Sonic Innovation. Naples Strikes Again.” This is a unique opportunity to listen to and interact with artists and experts in the music sector.

Don’t miss the chance to experience a cultural event that celebrates the sonic soul of Naples and its endless ability to regenerate.
