The 2024 edition of Lucca Comics & Games, held from October 30 to November 3, brought together fans of all things pop culture. With an impressive 275,000 tickets sold, the event was a thrilling All Saints’ Day weekend experience, enriched by perfect weather.
Europe’s Biggest Comic and Gaming Festival
As the largest event of its kind in Europe—and second only to Tokyo’s Comiket—Lucca Comics & Games is paradise for nerds, gamers, and cosplayers. Set within Lucca’s medieval walls, ticket holders could dive into a world of video games, TV series, films, board games, action figures, comics, graphic novels, and more, thanks to exclusive access to events, exhibitions, and themed pavilions.
This year, Nintendo’s pavilion stole the show, featuring Italy’s first-ever “pop-up store” with exclusive merchandise and a Squid Game 2 arena. Fans gathered in droves, thrilled to catch a preview of the new season from the cast itself. The arrival of Netflix’s supervan allowed lucky attendees to see the actors up close. Other special guests included legendary writers Jeph Loeb (known for DC Comics and Marvel) and Goosebumps author R.L. Stine —plus, a surprise “gladiator” who looked remarkably like Francesco Totti!
The Magic of Cosplay, Concerts, and the Festival Spirit
For those without tickets, Lucca’s festive atmosphere extended throughout the city. Cosplayers gathered beyond the city walls, embodying favorite characters and original creations with lights and sound effects, posing for photos with fans of all ages. By nightfall, the festival came alive with concerts and DJ sets featuring heavy metal bandLordi, local favorite Giorgio Vanni, and the iconic Oliver Onions.
